Stratospheric Thinking. Ground-Level Execution.
Your technology should accelerate your business objectives.
Marc Evans
Founder & Virtual CIO
Hi, I'm Marc Evans.
I'm a Virtual CIO and IT strategy consultant based in Denver, Colorado, working with companies across the United States. I align your technology to your business strategy — without the cost of a full-time CIO hire.
Most small and mid-size companies don't need a CIO 40 hours a week. They need executive-level technology judgment on the decisions that matter most — vendor selections, the strategic roadmap, and the board-level conversation about technology risk.
What I Actually Do
I scale to fit what your business actually needs, using the team and tools you already have. A typical engagement looks like one or more of these:
- Aligning your IT to your business goals — making sure technology investments and priorities support where the business is actually heading.
- Bringing your executive team into IT strategy and decision-making — translating between technology and business so leadership can engage with confidence on risk, spend, and roadmap.
- Coaching or building your IT team — developing the people you have into a high-performing function, or building one from scratch when you don't yet have it.
- Managing your MSP or MSSP — making sure you're getting full value for what you're paying, and that your providers are accountable to your business outcomes.
My job is to make your IT operation more aligned, more accountable, and more valuable to the business — without the overhead of another executive on payroll.
Selected Track Record
A few representative things I've delivered over my career:
- OT systems running inside nuclear reactors — designed and built operational technology solutions deployed in active nuclear facilities, where reliability and regulatory rigor aren't optional.
- Statewide AV platform for Colorado courts — created the audio/visual solution that became the standard for the Colorado State Judicial system and was adopted by several surrounding states.
- IT team turnarounds — repeatedly transformed underperforming IT teams into the high-performing function the business actually needed, without replacing the people in seat.
- Compliance automation — helped companies automate the documentation, evidence collection, and controls that keep them audit-ready — across CMMC, SOC 2, HIPAA, and industry-specific frameworks.
This experience shapes how I think, what risks I look for, and what's actually achievable in your environment.
Industries I Know Well
I've built deep experience in industries where technology failures aren't just costly — they're consequential. That includes Energy, Mining and Prospecting, Power Generation, and Industrial and BioMedical Manufacturing — environments where uptime matters, compliance is non-negotiable, and the margin for error is thin.
Just as often, I work with the businesses that supply and serve those industries — the engineering firms, specialized vendors, and B2B service providers whose own operations have to meet the same standards as their customers.
I've also helped plenty of companies outside these sectors. If your business is hitting a wall — scaling too fast, struggling with compliance, inheriting bad infrastructure, or simply lacking IT leadership — I can likely help.
Why "Gravity"?
Most IT problems aren't technical problems — they're alignment problems. Technology drifts away from the business. Decisions get made reactively. Vendors set the agenda. Teams optimize for their own goals instead of yours.
Gravity is what holds it together — the strategic pull that keeps technology aligned with business goals, keeps vendors honest, keeps teams pointed in the same direction, and keeps the right decisions getting made even when day-to-day pressures push toward something easier.
My role is to connect the dots — between your strategic partners, your IT team, your staff, and your leadership — so the right decisions get made and the work actually delivers.
